XMAS Oregon Map Sign Old Town XMAS Pioneer courthouse square tree final XMAS Thompson Elk wreath finalWe’ve created special prints for Christmas this year.

The City of Portland celebrates by lighting the official “holiday tree” in Pioneer Courthouse Square and by adding the lighted red nose to the Portland, Oregon sign “reindeer.” A mysterious individual or group celebrates unofficially by putting a wreath around the Thompson Fountain Elk’s neck. The three images are available now and we have a Holiday Bonus of FREE SHIPPING on all print orders. Purchase them on our website at http://www.YouAreHerePortland.com

Allport Editions has published eight new cards of our prints.

NY and SF cards

They are available on our website at http://www.youarehereportland.com/view_cards.html

This is an entry that was lingering in my list of posts and labelled as “draft.” We thought it had already been published, but alas.

With our prints on display at the famous Powell’s City of Books, unusual events can happen.
Last week we received an email with the subject: “Urgent Question.”
It turns out that a tourist couple from Belgium had seen the show and wanted to buy three prints as “souvenirs of Portland.” They had been wrongfully told by a Powell’s employee that they couldn’t have the prints until the show comes down. (That is true of the framed prints, but we had supplied Powells  with a stash of unframed prints to distribute).

In the email, they included screen captures of the prints they wanted, a very effective means of communication.

When we told them we could meet them and deliver the prints, they were delighted. They asked if we could meet under the Weather Machine at Pioneer Courthouse Square and a rendevouz was arranged.

They turned out to be a lovely couple and sent us a self portrait photograph of themselves on the Oregon Coast, along with this email message:

Dear Stephen & Lyn,

It was also a pleasure for us to meet the artists behind that lovely artwork.
We will give it a nice place in our house and it will remind us of the good time we had in Portland.
Indeed, we enjoyed being here. The city has a very pleasant and European feel, people are kind and relaxed, there are good beers, good food,… The good life!

We also appreciate that you took the effort to come and meet us with the prints!
Your work shows a view on Portland and at the same time you seem to be people with a sense of humor 🙂

We got a lot done this week. On Thursday, we dropped off a disc containing 8 new prints at Allport Editions. They are going to make them into two new boxed sets of cards. One of all New York City images and one of all San Francisco. Each box will have two each of four designs.
Then, on Friday, we delivered 90 prints at the Made In Oregon Store warehouse for them to distribute to five of their shops.

At the Crafty Wonderland last Sunday, we met the great, great, grandson of Francis Pettygrove, of the famous Portland/Boston coin flip.
We had a nice chat with him and he went away with one of our prints. He was happy to get his hands on “You Are Beer, Portland.” : )

Sunday, December 8th from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM at the Laurelhurst School at 840 N.E. 41st Street.
This event is a lot of fun, there will be great gift goods from professionals as well as students.

Look for the Big GoatGulfPrintSteamRoller and goat

This year we are participating in the Portland Letterpress Printers Fair and it looks to be a fun and exciting event for us.

On Saturday, October 12th, we will be printing a 3 foot by 4 foot woodblock print utilizing a steam roller weighing in at over two tons.

We’ve created a woodblock image of the East Portland Goats that work on landscape maintenance by grazing on the vacant super-block between S.E. Belmont and Yamhill Streets, 10th and 11th Avenues. The writers of Portlandia really don’t have to come up with anything for their scripts, it’s all right here in Portland.

This event is in conjunction with Design Week Portland.
